On a typical day, your SIMs are happily sending and receiving data within their allocated bundles. But let’s face it: not every day will go according to plan. Devices can act up, get compromised, or—worse—lose their SIM cards. When things go wrong, you need to be prepared. That’s where monitoring alerts come in.
By setting up monitoring alerts, you can track your devices’ data usage and catch potential problems before they spiral into unexpected overage charges. And trust us, your finance team will thank you when you avoid those costly surprises!
Let’s walk you through how to:
Navigate to monitoring alerts
Create monitoring alerts
Add alert recipients
Start by clicking Services in the left-hand navigation menu. Once the sub-menu expands, click on Monitoring alerts. You’ll be taken to the Monitoring Alerts Dashboard, where you can view previously created alerts, see which ones have been triggered, and check who is set up to receive those alerts.
Ready to set up your first alert? Click the Add Monitoring Alert button in the top-right corner. Once the form opens, you’ll start by choosing the type of threshold you want for your alert. You have four options here:
1. Whole Company: Any SIM that exceeds a data usage threshold.
2. Subscriber: A specific SIM exceeds a data usage threshold.
3. Subscriber Group (Aggregated): The combined usage of SIMs in a group exceeds a data usage threshold.
4. Subscriber Group (Individual): Any SIM in a specified group exceeds a data usage threshold.
You can set both lower and upper data usage thresholds for all four options.
Lower Threshold: Many customers set a small (but meaningful) lower threshold to check on the health of their fleet early in a new cycle. This helps identify which devices are using data and, just as importantly, which ones aren't doing anything.
Upper Threshold: Set the upper threshold to trigger when a SIM is approaching its data limit for the month. This gives you a heads-up so you can take action before incurring any extra charges.
Once you’ve fine-tuned your alert settings, click Add, and your new alert will appear under Current Monitoring Alerts in the top-right pane.
Triggered alerts appear in the bottom-left pane of the dashboard. However, if you're busy and need to stay in the loop, let’s set up alert recipients to keep you updated.
Head to the bottom-right pane and add your email address under Monitoring Alerts Recipients. Pelion will send triggered alerts directly to your inbox as soon as they happen.
Once you've entered your email, click Add Recipient, and you're all set.
Congratulations – you’ve just prevented a SIM from going rogue!
You’re now ready to monitor your devices' data usage and stay ahead of any potential issues. With your new alerts in place, you can rest easy knowing you’ll be alerted before anything goes awry. Happy days indeed!
