Glasgow, UK, 17 April 2026 – Pelion, the Glasgow-founded mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) with more than 25 years of heritage in Scotland, has been shortlisted in the Medium Business category at the prestigious TheBusinessDesk.com Scotland Business of the Year Awards 2026. In addition, Pelion’s Chief Executive Officer, Dave Weidner, has been named one of just six finalists for the Chief Executive of the Year award.
The awards, sponsored by PwC, celebrate excellence across Scotland’s business community. This year saw over 80 initial entrants, narrowed down to 44 shortlisted companies following a rigorous judging process that included site visits and in-depth presentations to an expert panel. Final presentations will take place in early May, with winners announced at the inaugural ceremony on 18 June at the voco Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow.
Dave Weidner’s nomination is particularly notable, as the Chief Executive of the Year category is judge-selected rather than entry-based. From across more than 40 competing businesses in the awards, Weidner was independently identified by judges as one of the top six CEOs in Scotland, recognising his leadership, strategic vision, and impact on Pelion’s continued growth.
Founded in Glasgow, Pelion has played a central role in keeping Scotland connected for more than a quarter of a century, delivering critical communications infrastructure and services to organisations across the country. Its customer base includes major public and private sector organisations such as BBC Scotland, Dundee City Council, and Lothian, reflecting the company’s long-standing commitment to supporting essential services and communities.
Under Weidner’s leadership, Pelion has continued to evolve, combining its deep Scottish roots with forward-looking innovation to meet the changing connectivity needs of modern organisations.
Commenting on the shortlist, Dave Weidner said:
"Being shortlisted alongside so many outstanding Scottish businesses is a real honour for Pelion. Our roots are firmly in Glasgow, and for over 25 years we’ve been proud to support organisations that keep Scotland running and connected. To also be recognised personally by the judges is incredibly humbling and a testament to the strength of the team around me."
Peter Walker, editor of TheBusinessDesk Scotland, said:
"It’s been fascinating to get out and talk to the people behind these businesses, hearing their stories and seeing their premises. Now we’ve got the tricky job of picking the best out of a very strong shortlist."
Pelion’s inclusion in the shortlist highlights both its sustained growth and its ongoing contribution to Scotland’s digital infrastructure and economy.
